Notopterus Chitala Common Names: Clown Knife Spotted Featherback |
Meet George and GracieGeorge and Gracie are my second pair of Clown Knives. This Picture was taken about a year and a half ago when they were only eight inches long, and still fit in a ten gallon tank. Since that time we have had them in two other tanks as they outgrew each. I prefer the less common name for these fish, Spotted Featherbacks, as it seems more descriptive. They are native to Thailand and Indoniesia, residing in the freshwater rivers there. They are carnivorous, feeding dominately on smaller fishes, but will scavenge as well. However in captivity here, we feed them a frozen beefheart mixture that I make myself. With goldfish or minnows as supplemental feedings these fish are eating machines. Eventually they may reach up to a meter in length.
